Taiko no Tatsujin Portable menu guide

A few days ago, Taiko no Tatsujin Portable came out for the PSP. Since there's no region control, every gamer can enjoy this import title without hassle.

Well, actually a little bit of hassle. The menus are all in Japanese! I can't read it, but I kept clicking until I figured out the important stuff (ie starting a normal game and saving).

Click here to read the full guide.

The screens below (phone pics, sorry) will help you navigate the game once you're past the title screen. Remember, since this is a Japanese game, Circle is the enter key while X is the escape key. (The opposite is true on most North American PSX/PS2/PSP games.)

Oh, and a note about points: When you complete a song, you get a certain number of points. As you get more, you can unlock up to four secret songs, one extra difficulty level, and two costume upgrades for your drum guy. It takes about 12000 points to get everything.

Nice job... I guess. Maybe I will do a real translation later. I thought most people would not need menu translation as they are very easy to navigate. Most people should have it figured out within 2-3 minutes even with zero Japanese knowledge.

Options screen says from left to right:

Sound Test
Memory Stick DUO
Key Configuration
Reset to Default
Go back

I only know little bit of Jap but I had no problem understanding these menus. :)

While any Taiko series fan would have no problem messing around with the menus, new players could be turned off of buying/playing it without a translation.

So it's really just to help people who might not otherwise have tried it out.. Everyone ought to play Taiko no Tatsujin!

On the save options page, for right to left, you have save, load and autosave.

The autosave options are (left) no adn right (yes). You will then notice that after completing a song, it will autosave your progress.

One of the other options appears to open some kind of memory card manager; I found out that it could delete save files from the psp (including it would seem non taiko related ones).

FYI, the "Save" and "Don't Save" is actually Yes (hai) and No (iie) in Japanese.

If you so choose to remember the symbols, it applies to every single Japanese game ever made.

Thanks for the translation. I had trouble figuring the menu out and didn't know how to save. This was extreamly helpful. If only I can get the translation for the breath of fire 3 game translated.

I just got this game, and one of the things I thought that was neat was how you could go into the sound options and change the sound the drum makes. These vary from cat and dog sounds to chime-like sounds to fighting noises(hu-ya!). You can also unlock extra sounds. This is probably a regular feature for all Taiko no Tatsujin games but I thought I'd just put it out there for all of the people like me who never played it before.

Very useful translation.

My problem is more with the game itself and figuring out which buttons mean which drum icon... can anybody help out there?

I could also use some help on the drum buttons--from the instruction book that came with the game I figured out that orange is any of the face or directional buttons, and blue is the L or R shoulder button. But I can't figure out what the yellow is supposed to be at all. Anyone provide some help?

the yellow (long) drum buttons means you have to tap Any (directional button) AND (any face button) alternately as fast and as many times as you can (well thats as far as I know >___<;;)
